Trisodium Phosphate
Na₃PO₄ | CAS: 7601-54-9 | HS: 28352600
Product Description
Trisodium Phosphate is a strongly alkaline trisodium salt used as a high-performance heavy-duty cleaning agent, degreaser, and surface preparation chemical. Its strongly alkaline pH, combined with phosphate's sequestering and emulsifying properties, makes it highly effective at cutting through grease, oils, soot, and stains on surfaces before painting or coating. In food applications (E339iii) it is used as an emulsifying salt in processed cheese and as a pH buffer in food processing. MITCHEM supplies anhydrous and dodecahydrate grades for industrial and food applications with full documentation.
Applications by Industry
Applied as a concentrated alkaline degreaser for cleaning industrial floors, machinery, and painted surfaces prior to repainting — sequesters hardness ions and emulsifies oils and greases.
Used to clean, degrease, and slightly etch painted surfaces before repainting — improves adhesion of new paint coats and removes contaminants that cause adhesion failure.
Emulsifying salt in processed cheese manufacture; buffers pH and chelates calcium ions in the protein matrix to produce the smooth, meltable texture of processed cheese slices.
Applied in boiler water treatment as an anti-scale agent and to maintain alkalinity; forms protective phosphate film on boiler metal surfaces reducing corrosion and scale.
