STPP (Sodium Tripolyphosphate)
Na₅P₃O₁₀ | CAS: 7758-29-4 | HS: 28353100
Product Description
Sodium Tripolyphosphate is the most effective and widely used builder in synthetic detergent formulations — sequestering calcium and magnesium hardness ions, preventing soap scum, and boosting surfactant cleaning performance in hard water. It also acts as an alkaline buffer and anti-redeposition agent, keeping soils suspended in the wash liquor. In food applications, STPP is used as a moisture retention agent in seafood, meat, and poultry processing. MITCHEM supplies detergent and food grades to detergent formulators and food processors with appropriate quality documentation.
Applications by Industry
Sequesters water hardness (Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺) to prevent soap scum and enhance surfactant cleaning efficiency; the primary builder in phosphate-containing powder detergent formulations globally.
Key builder and sequestrant in automatic dishwasher powders, preventing scale deposition and improving cleaning efficacy across varying water hardness levels.
Used as a moisture retention agent (polyphosphate) in seafood, processed meats, and poultry to reduce moisture loss during thawing, cooking, and processing.
Applied as a sequestrant and alkaline builder in industrial cleaners, metal surface preparation baths, and water treatment anti-scale formulations.
