Sodium Silicate
Na₂SiO₃ | CAS: 1344-09-8 | HS: 28391900
Product Description
Sodium Silicate (Waterglass) is a versatile alkali silicate with unique film-forming, adhesive, corrosion-inhibiting, and alkaline-buffering properties exploited across detergents, paper manufacturing, water treatment, construction, and refractory applications. In detergent formulations it acts simultaneously as a builder, corrosion inhibitor for washing machine metals, anti-redeposition agent, and alkaline buffer. In water treatment, a thin silicate film passivates pipe surfaces preventing iron and lead dissolution. MITCHEM supplies multiple SiO₂:Na₂O ratio grades in liquid and solid form with full quality documentation.
Applications by Industry
Functions as alkaline builder, corrosion inhibitor, anti-redeposition agent, and processing aid in powder laundry detergents, automatic dishwasher formulations, and industrial cleaners.
Used in paper de-inking (flotation de-inking of recovered paper), surface sizing, and as a peroxide bleach stabiliser in mechanical pulp bleaching.
Deposits a thin protective silicate film on pipe and fitting surfaces in potable water systems, preventing iron and lead dissolution from aging distribution infrastructure.
Used as an accelerating setting agent in concrete and refractory cements, a grouting agent for soil stabilisation, and a binder in refractory castables.
