Light Soda Ash
Na₂CO₃ | CAS: 497-19-8 | HS: 28362000
Product Description
Light Soda Ash is the low-density, fine-particle form of sodium carbonate — preferred in applications requiring rapid dissolution, intimate mixing with other powders, or specific low bulk-density characteristics. It is one of the world's highest-volume industrial chemicals, serving as an essential feedstock in glass manufacturing, detergents, chemicals, and water treatment. MITCHEM supplies light soda ash for detergent formulation, chemical synthesis, and water treatment applications where the light (fine powder) grade is specified.
Applications by Industry
One of the largest consumers globally; soda ash is a key flux in container glass, flat glass, and fibre glass — reducing the melting point of silica and contributing sodium oxide to the glass network.
Used as an alkaline builder and water softener in laundry detergents, automatic dishwasher powders, and industrial cleaning formulations.
Feedstock for producing sodium bicarbonate, sodium silicate, sodium chromate, and a broad range of sodium compounds; also used as a base in chemical processing.
Used for pH adjustment (alkalinity addition) and water softening by precipitating calcium carbonate from hard water in lime-soda softening processes.
