SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate)
CH₃(CH₂)₁₁OSO₃Na | CAS: 151-21-3 | HS: 34021300
Product Description
Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is a powerful anionic surfactant with excellent foaming, emulsifying, and cleansing properties. While SLES has largely replaced SLS in rinse-off personal care due to mildness concerns, SLS retains strong positions in toothpaste (where its foaming is a functional requirement), pharmaceutical tablet coatings, industrial degreasers, and applications where maximum surface activity is valued over skin mildness. Pharmaceutical-grade SLS (NF/BP) is widely used as a tablet lubricant and emulsifying agent. MITCHEM supplies powder, needle, and paste grades with appropriate documentation.
Applications by Industry
The standard foaming agent in toothpaste formulations; produces the foam expected by consumers and aids in distribution of toothpaste across tooth surfaces during brushing.
Used as a wetting agent, emulsifier, and tablet lubricant in pharmaceutical solid and semi-solid dosage forms; pharmaceutical grade supplied with full pharmacopeial documentation.
Used in concentrated industrial cleaning formulations for degreasing metal parts, equipment, and surfaces where maximum surfactant efficacy is required.
Applied as a wetting and scouring agent in textile processing, enabling efficient penetration of processing liquors into dense yarn and fabric structures.
