LABSA (Linear Alkylbenzene Sulphonic Acid)
C₁₈H₂₉SO₃H (avg) | CAS: 27176-87-0 | HS: 34021100
Product Description
LABSA is the most widely produced synthetic surfactant globally — the primary feedstock for linear alkylbenzene sulphonate (LAS/SDBS), the anionic surfactant backbone of household laundry detergents, dishwashing liquids, and industrial cleaners. It is produced by sulphonation of linear alkylbenzene (LAB) and neutralised with NaOH or other bases to produce the final surfactant salt. Its biodegradability profile has made it the dominant detergent surfactant in global markets. MITCHEM exports LABSA to detergent formulators, soap manufacturers, and cleaning product producers across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
Applications by Industry
Neutralised with NaOH to produce sodium LAS (SDBS), the primary anionic surfactant in powder and liquid laundry detergents — the highest-volume detergent surfactant application globally.
Neutralised with amines or NaOH for the high-foaming, grease-cutting surfactant base in manual dishwashing liquids and household cleaners.
Used in floor cleaners, hard surface cleaners, and industrial degreasers; excellent wetting and emulsification of oils and greases across a wide pH range.
Applied as a scouring surfactant to remove sizing, spinning oils, and natural impurities from greige fabric before dyeing and finishing.
