Caustic Soda Lye (Liquid)
NaOH (solution) | CAS: 1310-73-2 | HS: 28151200
Product Description
Caustic Soda Lye is the liquid form of sodium hydroxide — one of the most produced industrial chemicals globally and a foundational feedstock across chemical manufacturing, textiles, paper, soap, and water treatment. Produced as a co-product of chlorine via the chlor-alkali electrolysis process, NaOH solution at 48–50% concentration is the standard commercial form for bulk industrial users. Its strong alkalinity enables neutralisation, saponification, mercerisation, and chemical synthesis across virtually every process industry. MITCHEM supplies in IBC tanks and road tankers with full hazmat documentation.
Applications by Industry
Essential feedstock in the production of sodium salts, surfactants, synthetic fibres (viscose/rayon), and a wide range of organic and inorganic chemicals; one of the highest-volume industrial chemical inputs globally.
Applied in cotton mercerisation to improve fibre lustre, tensile strength, and dye uptake; also used for scouring, desizing, and kier-boiling of cotton fabric.
Dosed to raise pH in acidic water treatment streams, neutralise acidic industrial effluents, and maintain optimal coagulation pH in water treatment plants.
Reacts with fatty acids and oils (saponification) to produce hard bar soaps; also used in the synthesis of anionic surfactants including LABSA neutralisation.
