Titanium Dioxide
TiO₂ | CAS: 13463-67-7 | HS: 32061100
Product Description
Titanium Dioxide is the world's premier white pigment — unmatched in refractive index (n=2.73 rutile), opacity, and brightness for its particle size and density among all white pigments. It provides the hiding power, whiteness, and UV resistance in virtually every white or pastel-coloured paint, coating, plastic, and paper product. The rutile grade (surface-treated) is used in exterior durability applications; anatase is preferred in paper and certain plastics. Food-grade TiO₂ (E171) is used as a food whitening agent, though EU food use is under review. MITCHEM exports rutile and anatase grades to coatings, plastics, and industrial users.
Applications by Industry
The essential white pigment in architectural, industrial, and automotive coatings — provides opacity (hiding power), whiteness, UV protection, and durability in interior and exterior paint films.
Used in PVC, polyolefins, ABS, and engineering plastics for whitening, opacity, and UV stabilisation; critical in white PVC window frames, pipes, and packaging.
Anatase TiO₂ is used as a paper filler for opacity and brightness; rutile is used in speciality printing papers and inkjet coating for high definition image reproduction.
Used as a UV-B filter and opacifying pigment in sunscreens, foundations, and concealer products; nano-TiO₂ provides UV protection while remaining transparent on skin.
