Sodium Chlorite
NaClO₂ | CAS: 7758-19-2 | HS: 28289000
Product Description
Sodium Chlorite is the primary precursor for on-site generation of chlorine dioxide — the selective oxidising disinfectant used in advanced water treatment and food safety sanitation. When activated with acid (HCl), NaClO₂ generates ClO₂ for water treatment without requiring compressed chlorine gas, enabling safer and more portable ClO₂ generation. Independently, sodium chlorite is a powerful textile bleach for bleaching cellulose fibres (cotton, linen) with minimal fibre damage — particularly valuable for producing bright whites on difficult fibres. MITCHEM supplies with full oxidiser safety documentation.
Applications by Industry
Primary precursor for generating ClO₂ via acid activation (NaClO₂ + HCl → ClO₂) for water treatment, cooling tower biocide, and food sanitation applications.
Produces high-whiteness bleaching of cotton, linen, and hemp fibres with minimal strength loss; generates ClO₂ in situ during acidified bleaching processes.
Used in ECF pulp bleaching sequences as a stage-wise bleaching agent between chlorine dioxide and extraction stages.
Precursor system used to generate ClO₂ on-site for disinfection of food processing equipment, produce wash water, and potable water lines.
