Chlorine Dioxide
ClO₂ | CAS: 10049-04-4 | HS: 28121090
Product Description
Chlorine Dioxide is a powerful, selective oxidising biocide that outperforms conventional chlorine across a wide pH range (4–10) and is not subject to the ammonia- and organic-matter demand that limits chlorine efficacy. It does not form trihalomethane (THM) disinfection by-products, making it the disinfectant of choice for drinking water treatment in markets with strict DBP regulations. It is also widely used for cooling tower Legionella control, food processing surface sanitation, and paper pulp bleaching. MITCHEM supplies stabilised solution and precursor systems; TDS documentation in preparation.
Applications by Industry
EPA-approved and widely used in municipal water treatment as a primary disinfectant and for taste/odour control; produces no chloroform or THMs unlike chlorine.
Highly effective against Legionella pneumophila biofilm in cooling towers; the preferred biocide in healthcare facility HVAC risk management programmes.
Used for washing fresh produce, poultry processing water, and seafood sanitation; effective at low concentrations without leaving chlorine taste or bleach residues.
Used in ECF (Elemental Chlorine-Free) bleaching sequences for Kraft pulp, delivering high brightness with minimal fibre damage compared to elemental chlorine.
