Potassium Thiosulphate

Product Description
Potassium Thiosulphate (KTS) is primarily used in modern fertigation and foliar spray systems as a premium sulphur-potassium fertiliser, supplying two essential macronutrients — potassium (K) and sulphur (S) — in a single, fully water-soluble and compatible formulation. Unlike elemental sulphur or sulphate fertilisers, KTS provides thiosulphate-form sulphur that is rapidly converted to plant-available sulphate in the soil and also shows inhibitory effects on soil nitrification, potentially improving nitrogen use efficiency. In industrial applications, it is used as a photographic fixing agent (like sodium thiosulphate), in water dechlorination, and in analytical chemistry as an iodometric titrant. MITCHEM supplies both solid and solution grades.
Applications by Industry
Applied via drip irrigation and foliar spray systems to supply both K and S to fruit trees, vegetables, and field crops; compatible with most liquid fertilisers; prevents soil pH rise versus sulphate of potash.
Used in photographic fixer solutions to dissolve unexposed silver halides from film and paper after development; less common than sodium thiosulphate but preferred in some colour film processes.
Reacts rapidly with residual chlorine and chloramines in treated water to neutralise them before discharge; used in industrial wastewater treatment and aquaculture dechlorination.
Standard reductimetric titrant for iodometric determination of oxidising agents including dissolved oxygen, halogens, and oxidising species in food, water, and industrial process samples.
