Potassium Carbonate
K₂CO₃ | CAS: 584-08-7 | HS: 28362000
Product Description
Potassium Carbonate is a versatile potassium alkali used across glass manufacturing, food processing, specialty soap production, agrochemicals, and electronics. In glass manufacturing, it produces potash glass with superior optical properties — used in optical lenses, television screens, and specialty glassware. In food applications, it is a classic leavening agent used in traditional German gingerbread (Lebkuchen) and as an acidity regulator. MITCHEM supplies technical and food grades with appropriate documentation for export to glass manufacturers, food processors, and industrial chemical users.
Applications by Industry
Used in potash glass for optical lenses, camera lenses, television screens, and crystal glassware; potassium oxide imparts higher refractive index and brilliance versus soda-lime glass.
Traditional leavening agent in German gingerbread, Chinese alkaline noodles, and certain baked goods; also used as an acidity regulator in cocoa processing (alkalization/dutching).
Reacts with fatty acids to produce soft potassium soaps (liquid soaps and shaving creams) as an alternative to sodium-soap-based hard bar soaps.
Used in the production of potassium-based fertilisers, crop protection formulations, and as a base in agricultural chemical synthesis.
