Montan Wax
Complex ester mixture (C28–C32 fatty acids + alcohols) | CAS: 8002-43-5 | HS: 27139000
Product Description
Montan Wax is a mineral wax extracted from lignite (brown coal) — the hardest and highest-melting of the commercial waxes, prized for its outstanding hardness, high gloss potential, and broad compatibility with resins and polymers. Refined and ester-modified montan wax grades are used in automotive polishes, floor polishes, carbon paper, leather finishing, and as an internal lubricant in engineering plastic compounding (especially POM, PA, and PBT). Its unique combination of hardness, melting point (80–95°C), and gloss makes it irreplaceable in several premium application segments. MITCHEM supplies refined grades with specifications.
Applications by Industry
Primary wax in high-gloss automotive paste polishes and floor wax formulations — montan wax's hardness and high-melting characteristics produce the brilliant, durable gloss finish that softer waxes cannot achieve.
Internal lubricant in POM (Delrin), PA (nylon), PBT, and PC engineering plastic compounds — reduces mould friction, improves release, and enhances surface quality of precision moulded engineering parts.
Applied in leather surface finishing formulations to provide hardness, polish, high gloss, and durability in shoe polish, furniture leather finish, and upholstery leather coatings.
Used as an external lubricant in PVC processing where a combination of high melting point, metal release, and compatibility with PVC stabiliser systems is required.
