Compressed Hydrogen
H₂ | CAS: 1333-74-0 | HS: 28041000
Product Description
Compressed Hydrogen is a co-product of the chlor-alkali electrolysis process that produces chlorine and caustic soda. Industrial hydrogen gas is used in hydrogenation of oils and fats, ammonia synthesis, petroleum refining, and as a reducing atmosphere in metal processing. High-purity hydrogen is increasingly in demand for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and clean energy applications. MITCHEM supplies compressed hydrogen in standard cylinder sizes with full gas safety documentation for industrial users.
Applications by Industry
Used to hydrogenate vegetable oils to produce margarine, shortening, and partially hydrogenated fats; hydrogen converts unsaturated fatty acid double bonds to saturated equivalents.
Essential in catalytic hydrodesulphurisation (HDS) and hydrocracking of heavy petroleum fractions to produce low-sulphur fuels and lighter hydrocarbon products.
Primary feedstock reacting with nitrogen over iron catalyst at high pressure to produce ammonia for fertiliser manufacturing.
Used as a reducing protective atmosphere in annealing, sintering, and brazing of metals and electronic components to prevent oxidation.
