Ammonium Sulphate
(NH₄)₂SO₄ | CAS: 7783-20-2 | HS: 31022100
Product Description
Ammonium Sulphate is one of the world's most widely used nitrogenous fertilisers, providing both nitrogen (21%) and sulphur (24%) in crop-available forms. It is particularly valued in sulphur-deficient soils and for crops with high sulphur requirements — including oilseed rape, brassicas, and onions. Its solid form enables straightforward application via broadcast or band placement. Industrially, it is produced as a by-product of caprolactam (nylon), coking (coal tar), and gas scrubbing processes. MITCHEM supplies agricultural and industrial grades with full documentation.
Applications by Industry
Provides 21% ammoniacal nitrogen and 24% sulphur — dual-nutrient fertiliser for sulphur-responsive crops including oilseed rape, wheat, maize, sugarcane, and horticultural vegetables.
Used as a dough conditioner and yeast nutrient in bread baking, providing nitrogen and sulphate for yeast metabolism and dough rheology improvement.
Added to herbicide spray solutions (glyphosate, 2,4-D) as an ammonium salt adjuvant to improve uptake through plant cuticle and overcome hard water antagonism.
Used in fire retardant formulations for textiles and paper (ammonium sulphate/phosphate treatment), and as a raw material for producing other ammonium compounds.
