Pentaerythritol Tetrastearate
C₇₇H₁₄₈O₈ | CAS: 115-83-3 | HS: 29157090
Product Description
Pentaerythritol Tetrastearate (PETS, Pentaerythrityl Tetrastearate) is a high-performance ester wax produced by full esterification of pentaerythritol with stearic acid. It is the benchmark internal lubricant and mould-release agent for engineering thermoplastics processed at high temperatures (200–320°C), including polyamide (PA6, PA66, PA12), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polycarbonate (PC), polyoxymethylene (POM), and PET. PETS provides superior mould-release while simultaneously improving surface gloss, reducing cycle time, and lowering melt viscosity, making it one of the most cost-effective processing lubricants for high-end engineering plastic compounds. It is thermally stable without discolouration up to 300°C and is FDA 21 CFR compliant for food-contact plastic applications. MITCHEM supplies technical grade.
Applications by Industry
Primary internal lubricant for polyamide (nylon), PBT, polycarbonate, and POM compounds; provides excellent mould release, surface gloss, and reduced cycle time at processing temperatures up to 320°C.
Outperforms conventional waxes in temperature stability — no discolouration or decomposition up to 300°C+; suitable for glass-filled and reinforced engineering compounds where processing temperatures are extreme.
Used as an internal lubricant in rigid and semi-rigid PVC compounds to reduce melt viscosity, improve homogeneity, and prevent plate-out during extrusion and injection moulding.
Improves slip, scratch resistance, and anti-blocking properties in printing inks and industrial coatings; used as a matting agent and surface-texture modifier.
