Lead Stearate
Pb(C₁₇H₃₅COO)₂ | CAS: 1072-35-1 | HS: 29157090
Product Description
Lead Stearate was historically the most effective and widely used PVC heat stabiliser — providing excellent long-term heat stability, low cost, and excellent electrical insulation properties in PVC wire and cable insulation. However, its use is now severely restricted under REACH, RoHS, and WHO guidelines in most markets due to lead toxicity concerns. It remains in limited use in specific non-consumer industrial applications in markets where lead PVC stabilisers have not yet been fully regulated. MITCHEM supplies only to end users with demonstrated regulatory compliance frameworks and appropriate hazardous substance management procedures.
Applications by Industry
Historical and residual-use PVC heat stabiliser in non-consumer industrial PVC wire insulation, pipes, and profiles in markets/applications where lead stabilisers remain permitted under local regulation.
External lubricant in PVC processing — reduces metal adhesion and improves surface quality of extruded sections; used in combination with internal lubricants.
Historically the stabiliser of choice for electrical PVC cable insulation due to its excellent electrical insulation properties and long-term thermal stability.
Residual industrial applications in low-voltage electrical insulation and industrial plastic parts in markets where lead PVC stabilisers have regulatory compliance frameworks in place.
