Barium Chloride Dihydrate
BaCl₂·2H₂O | CAS: 10326-27-9 | HS: 28273990
Product Description
Barium Chloride Dihydrate is a key industrial barium salt with primary applications in metal heat treatment, barium salt manufacturing, and water softening. In the steel industry, molten barium chloride salt baths provide the controlled high-temperature medium required for case-hardening, annealing, and neutral hardening of precision steel components. Its high solubility in water makes it the preferred barium source where a dissolved barium input is required. MITCHEM supplies consistent crystal quality with full hazardous materials documentation for international shipping compliance.
Applications by Industry
Molten BaCl₂ provides a stable, uniform high-temperature medium (700–900°C) for case-hardening, annealing, and neutral hardening of steel; superior heat transfer versus atmospheric furnaces.
Used as a soluble barium feedstock for producing barium sulphate (precipitated), barium carbonate, and other downstream barium compounds via double decomposition.
Applied in industrial boiler feed water treatment to precipitate and remove sulphate hardness, preventing scale deposition in high-pressure boilers.
Used in the textile and paper industries as a mordant and pigment fixer for certain azo dyes and pigment lakes.
Used in electronics manufacturing and laboratory synthesis requiring precise barium ion concentrations.
