Aluminium Chlorohydrate
Al₂(OH)₅Cl·2H₂O | CAS: 1327-41-9 | HS: 28273100
Product Description
Aluminium Chlorohydrate (ACH, Aluminium Chlorhydroxide) is a polymeric aluminium salt with two major application areas: as the active ingredient in antiperspirant and deodorant products, and as a high-performance coagulant in water and wastewater treatment. In personal care, ACH forms a temporary gel plug in sweat ducts by interacting with keratin proteins, reducing perspiration by 20–40% — making it the most effective over-the-counter antiperspirant active permitted by FDA (up to 25% ACH). In water treatment, ACH outperforms aluminium sulphate at lower dosages and over a wider pH range, producing denser, faster-settling flocs. MITCHEM supplies both spray-dried powder and solution grades for cosmetic and industrial applications.
Applications by Industry
FDA-approved active ingredient in OTC antiperspirant products at up to 25% ACH concentration; forms a temporary protein-aluminium complex gel plug in eccrine sweat ducts to reduce perspiration.
Pre-hydrolysed aluminium coagulant effective at lower dosages and broader pH range than alum; produces dense, rapidly settling flocs for turbidity, colour, and phosphate removal.
Used as a retention aid and sizing precipitant in paper mills to fix rosin size onto cellulose fibres, improving paper water resistance and printability.
Applied as a mordant in textile dyeing to fix dyes to fibre, and as a chrome-free tanning auxiliary in leather processing to improve surface properties.
